Seasons: The Earth and Sun

This simple sun-earth model demonstrates the seasons. The moving flare represents the apparent motion of the sun throughout the year. Because of the Earth's axial tilt, sunlight on the surface drifts north and south. This drifting is the reason for the seasons. NASA and NOAA satellites constantly observe the effects such as seasonal temperature and vegetation changes.
